Abstract

Analysis of outcomes of combined treatment of stomach and colon cancer with reoperative and intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) is presented in the article. Innovative technical and methodological solutions are given as well. Intense sessions of preoperative radiation therapy and IORT at dose of 20 Gy are compatible with any surgery interventions to the stomach and the colon. Analysis of long-term results of treatment demonstrates higher efficiency of combined treatment than surgical treatment for local-advanced cancer, as well as for low-differentiated tumor, mucinous and undifferentiated cancer. In more than 15 years after the treatment no effects of high single radiation doses on development of metachronous tumors were observed.

Key words
Stomach cancer, colon cancer, combined treatment, preoperative radiation therapy, intraoperative treatment, metachronous tumors.
