Abstract

The main results of radioecological modeling to ensure radiation and epidemiological studies conducted at the NRER are presented. Data on the doses of external radiation of liquidators registered in the NRER are presented. The results of reconstructions of the dynamics of accumulation of average effective radiation doses in settlements from 1986 to 2025 and its components are shown: external radiation doses, internal radiation doses obtained using the methodology developed at the NRER. The results of a study on improving the differential agroradioecological model developed using the technology of the IAEA EMRAS project are presented. A method is described for recalculating instrumental data on the dynamics of radionuclide activity in vegetation of one species in one locality to vegetation of other species in other localities. A method for correcting the dynamics of radionuclide transport across the elements of the food chain is presented. The results of comparing the reconstructed and instrumental data on the dynamics of milk contamination show quite satisfactory agreement over the entire time range of its measurements. Promising model verification results have been obtained based on instrumental data on the dynamics of the specific activities of 131I and 137Cs in all elements of the food chain – the main dose-forming sources of their intake into the human body: inhalation, consumption of greens and milk. This, in turn, will minimize the uncertainty of calculating the doses of internal radiation to the thyroid gland and the entire body of the population of the contaminated territories in the year of the accident.

Key words
Chernobyl accident, methods of radiation dose estimates, liquidators, population of contaminated territories of Russia, models of radionuclide transport along food chains, reconstruction and verification, radiation dose distribution, public health.
